Olympiad Commentator
A personal AI voice commentator for any team at the Chess Olympiad. Built solo at the {Tech: Europe} Agentic AI Hack, London, 19 September 2026, where it took second place.
Recorded hands-free by scripts/record_demo.py. The viewer's questions are a text-to-speech voice fed in as the microphone; the commentator is Gemini Live; the games are a replay of real round-1 games from the 46th Chess Olympiad (Botswana v Brazil, which really ended 2–2).
- 0:00 match summary and forecast · 0:16 a spoken question answered from engine facts
- ≈0:30 heads-ups before anything goes wrong: a knife edge on board one (only Ne5 holds) and time trouble on boards two and four
- ≈0:57 the commentator breaks off mid-sentence: Brazil blunders with 34.Rd7. Red arrow: the blunder. Green arrow: the refutation from Stockfish on Modal. The caption under the board is written by Gemma on a Modal GPU through the Pydantic AI Gateway.
- ≈1:17 “what if Black plays bishop to c8?” is searched at depth 20 on Modal in the background and the answer cuts in
- ≈1:39 “why did you cut in?”: the director explains its decision
